Tomato
Real tomatoes are a late summer and autumn fruit – (not to be mistaken with the inferior hydroponic tomato available year-round in supermarkets). Tomatoes are best stored at room temperature. While I would never peel a tomato intended for a salad, many recipes suggest peeling and de-seeding tomatoes for cooked dishes – as the skin tends to get caught up and the seeds are bitter. Look out for some more unusual heirloom varieties appearing in grocers.
